“The "Y" in HYPE: AI vs. A-why”
Abstract:
In an era where AI is transforming the landscape of education, EFL teachers are navigating a world of rapid technological innovation. However, as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance, it raises a critical question: is it truly the future of language learning, or is it merely part of the latest hype? In this 30-minute session, we will delve into the powerful capabilities of AI in the EFL classroom and examine the "why" behind its increasing prominence. Through insightful discussions and real-world examples, we will explore both the promises and the potential pitfalls of incorporating AI tools into language learning. Teachers will walk away with a clearer understanding of when AI can enhance teaching, when it may fall short, and how to leverage these technologies meaningfully, ensuring that we don’t just chase the buzz but thoughtfully consider the “why” behind the integration of AI in EFL education.
Plenary 1
Prof. Moulay M’hammed DRISSI
"The Pedagogy of AI Integration in Education: Insights from Teachers and Learners”
Abstract
Plenary 2
Prof. George Kokolas
“Humanistic Positive Education in the AI Era”
Abstract
Negative emotions and demotivation are common in today’s classrooms, especially as technology becomes more present in our lives. Humanistic Positive Education is not just about “feeling good” but is a well-researched, practical framework that helps both teachers and students thrive, even during challenging times. This approach encourages resilience, engagement, and authentic connection, empowering learners to flourish rather than just cope. The speaker will explain why Positive Education matters, share hands-on PosEd activities, and emphasize that Positive Education is best experienced and modeled, not simply taught. While AI brings new opportunities for growth, it’s important to be mindful of its potential for distraction or addiction, ensuring that technology supports—rather than undermines—well-being.
Closing Panel
"The Road Ahead: Empowering Teachers for Future Challenges"
Prof. Noureddine Bendouqi
Abstract
As the educational landscape rapidly evolves under the influence of artificial intelligence, one critical
question remains: how can educators lead the way in shaping future-ready classrooms? This closing
plenary brings together insights from the conference’s keynote, plenaries and workshops—ranging
from humanistic approaches in AI-integrated learning, to TPACK-based training models, and
practical classroom applications of AI. Participants will reflect on the balance between innovation and pedagogical integrity, the enduring role of critical thinking in the age of automation, and the importance of equipping teachers not just with tools, but with purpose. By revisiting the "why" behind AI adoption in education, this session aims to inspire a forward-thinking mindset and chart a practical, empowering roadmap for teachers navigating tomorrow’s classrooms.
Workshops
Workshop 1
Prof. Es- Soufi Karim
Abstract
In an era characterized by constant change and profound disruptions, Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges as a transformative force, presenting both immense potential and inherent risks for the future of teaching and learning. The rapid rise of generative AI tools, in particular, raises fundamental questions about how education is organized and necessitates an evolution of the teacher's role. This workshop is specifically designed for both pre-service and in-service teachers, focusing on continuous professional development (CPD) to steer this evolving landscape. Guided by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, the workshop will explore how AI tools can enhance the foundational pillars of quality education, focusing mainly on well-prepared educators, engaged learners, and aligned assessment, and provide practical strategies for integrating AI into teacher training. Drawing on emerging current research findings, novice applications, and participants' feedback, this workshop seeks to offer some recommendations for fostering AI-literate educators who can effectively and responsibly leverage AI to create equitable, engaging, and impactful learning environments.
Workshop 2
The Socratic Method Rebooted: Critical Thinking in the AI Age
Prof. Robert Howard
Abstract
Critical thinking (CT) has long been heralded as an essential skill for learners, yet despite decades of discourse on its importance, it has often failed to be addressed with the urgency and depth it deserves, especially in EFL classrooms. In the age of AI, where information is abundant, but discernment is scarce, fostering critical thinkers has never been more crucial. This talk explores how the Socratic Method—a timeless approach based on dialogue, questioning, and reflection—can be rebooted to meet the challenges of modern education. This session will demonstrate how, with the integration of AI tools, educators can enhance the Socratic dialogue in EFL classrooms, promoting critical thinking in a way that goes beyond rote memorization. Rebooting the Socratic Method isn’t just about asking the right questions, it's about equipping learners to think independently and critically in an AI-driven world.
Workshop 3
From One-Size-Fits-All to Individualized Learning: The Future of Education with AI IS THE TITLE of the AI one
Prof. George Kokolas

Express DigiPlus introduces an AI-driven, data-powered solution designed to personalize and optimize learning for students at all levels. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies—including natural language processing, neuroscience, and cognitive science—Express DigiPlus creates individualized knowledge paths tailored to each learner’s needs. The platform supports the development of core language skills through adaptive, CEFR-aligned curricula, delivering real-time feedback and actionable insights for teachers. This presentation explores how Express DigiPlus empowers schools to achieve efficient, measurable, and inclusive education, driving better and faster learning outcomes globally.
Workshop 4
Prof. Rachid Elaasri
Abstract
This interactive workshop introduces English teachers to four free, AI-powered tools that enhance teaching and learning across key language skills. Participants will learn how to create customized listening materials using Google AI Studio, design leveled reading tasks through Diffit, generate contextual lesson content with TeacherServer, and guide students through the writing process using Write & Improve by Cambridge. Each tool is selected for its simplicity, classroom readiness, and potential to support learners in Moroccan contexts. Teachers will engage in hands-on activities, explore practical use cases, and leave with ready-to-use materials and templates. The session emphasizes how AI can reduce teacher workload, personalize instruction, and promote student autonomy, all without requiring advanced tech skills.
